The 23 “Things” are Web 2.0 tools for you to explore and experiment with to learn about the new and emerging technologies that are changing how information is used and created on the Internet today. Some of the “Things” might be useful in helping you work better, some for sharing work, and some for promoting your archives.

When you log into RockMelt, it will ask for your Facebook login information so that it can integrate seamlessly with the social networking site. On the left side of your screen, a toolbar (pictured to the right) shows you how many new Facebook, Twitter, or RSS feed posts you have.

As you can see, when you click on the Facebook icon (or any other icon) you can see your feed without having to navigate away from the page you are currently browsing. The right side of the screen will show Facebook friends who are online, and allow you to chat with them, also without leaving your current page.

Facebook, Twitter, and RSS feeds integrate with RockMelt, but because the browser is so new and social media is constantly evolving, you should keep up with their blog in order to stay up to date on the latest updates.

In case you don’t know it, June 9 is also International Archives Day, organized by the International Council on Archives (ICA).

If you or your archives wants to participate, simply enter your information in this open googledoc. The sponsors will use it to make a masterlist of participating archives.

If you have special knowledge or subject areas that you are particularly keen on, you can enter them too. But that is not necessary – all archivists are welcome, with or without special topics.
